SCAR — Sankofa Cultural Assessment Report
Bringing cultural truth into the courtroom.
The SCAR is a comprehensive, court‑admissible clinical report designed for Black individuals involved in the Canadian justice system. Modeled after the IRCA ™, the SCAR brings depth, cultural context, and systemic analysis to legal proceedings.
Each report is informed by rigorous clinical interviews, trauma assessment tools, and historical research — weaving together the psychological and structural realities of racialized life in Canada. It includes analysis of:
- The impact of systemic anti‑Black racism
- Intergenerational and racial trauma
- Cultural identity formation
- Social determinants of justice (poverty, education, housing, etc.)
SCARs are most often used in Pre-sentencing of a guilty plea with sentencing that could be for 2 years or more. As well as bail hearings, in rare cases and restorative justice contexts.
